Barna use examples most effectively in those three authors. The examples given by Barna are easy to understand and appropriate to support her arguments.
However, Fisher's examples are sometimes subjective. He gives many clear visual examples, but other examples are often based on his own experience. Using authors own experiences many times are possible to be thought subjective by readers, and weaken the evidence of the essay.
On the other hand, McDaniel's examples are little hard to understand. He gives examples only in a few sentences and uses some difficult words in it. Since it is academic writing, it is necessary to use formal words. However, roles of examples are not only proving, but make the argument more clear and easer to understand. I think that authors should use easer and more familiar words when they give examples.
Thus we should pay attention to sources of examples and way of writing.
By the way, I think the biggest problem for most of us is the amount of reading.
Do you know how many pages must we read in Shipman's article (No.12)?
28 pages! I am crying right now because of our unavoidable reality......
Hi May!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first comment for classmates' blogs:)
Your comparison is very good and critical! I agree with your opinion, especially about McDaniel-- his writing style is the most difficult of these three authors.
I agree with you, it's difficult...
ReplyDeleteDon't cry!! The goal is beyond the difficulty!

ReplyDeleteHi May, this is Chiharu.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you.
Wow you you're doing a pretty good job on ELP reader!!
And giving good points on those readings... wow amazing.
You're discussing mainly examples in writing stuff.
I think examples are really essential elements of the writing
and I mostly agree with your opinion.
But I didn't think Fisher's examples of his own experience are weaker,,,
because sometimes author's own experience are better
to feel the example familiar and it can be even evidential.
By the way, I'd like to hear your progress on ELP, too!!
Yeah I was almost died when I looked at the text and saw
how thick the Fall term part was...
Well, we'll make it...!!
Thank you for making a comment on my blog.
ReplyDelete"he" is mistake. Three part is "myth of similarity", "myth of no similarity" and "assumption of difefrence"
28 pages are too much to me!
ReplyDeleteWell...only the Fisher one was interesting.
Hello all!
